Three people have been killed and four others seriously injured following a major collision involving a heavy motor vehicle and two minibus taxis on the N7 near Dunoon on Thursday morning, August 27, 2026.

The crash happened at approximately 8:30 a.m. near the Dunoon area, according to the Western Cape Mobility Department. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene, where several people were found injured following the collision

Western Cape Mobility Department Chief Director for Traffic Management Maxine Bezuidenhout confirmed that three fatalities had been recorded and that four people sustained serious injuries.

The circumstances that led to the collision have not yet been fully established. Authorities are expected to investigate the movements of the heavy vehicle and the two minibus taxis before the crash as they work to determine exactly what happened.

The incident prompted the closure of the N7 southbound at Potsdam Road, with emergency teams remaining at the scene while they attended to the injured, investigated the collision and worked to clear the roadway. Motorists were urged to avoid the area, use alternative routes and exercise extreme caution around the emergency response.

Road-safety organisation Arrive Alive also reported multiple serious motor-vehicle collisions and road fatalities in the broader Table View area on Thursday, with the N7 southbound affected by closures between Malibongwe Drive and Plattekloof Drive.

The latest crash has caused significant disruption for motorists travelling through one of Cape Town’s busy northern transport corridors. Drivers approaching the affected area are being encouraged to allow additional travel time and follow instructions from traffic officials.

The identities of the three people who died have not yet been released in the reports available, and further information about the injured victims was also not immediately provided.

Investigators will now work to establish the full circumstances of the collision, including whether road conditions, vehicle factors, driver behaviour or other circumstances contributed to the crash.

For the families of those who died, Thursday’s collision has brought devastating and unexpected loss. The four seriously injured victims are receiving medical attention as emergency services continue responding to the aftermath.

This remains a developing story, and further details are expected as authorities continue their investigation and provide additional updates.
