Motorists traveling on the 15 Freeway are facing traffic disruptions Thursday, August 27, 2026, following multiple serious crashes reported along Interstate 15, including fatal collisions in Southern California.
One of the most serious incidents occurred early Thursday morning on northbound I-15 near Nipton, in the Mountain Pass area. The crash was reported at approximately 2:19 a.m. near mile marker 169, south of Bailey Road, according to preliminary information from the California Highway Patrol. Initial reports indicated that a white sedan was swerving near a semi-truck. Responding personnel later reported a person on the roadway and requested an air ambulance. A person was subsequently pronounced dead, and the San Bernardino County coroner was requested.
Another fatal collision occurred on southbound I-15 in the Cajon Pass near Cleghorn Road. According to CHP incident information, the crash was reported at approximately 7:32 a.m. and involved a motorcycle that struck the right-side guardrail. The motorcycle came to rest in the center median, while the rider was found on the right shoulder. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene.
The motorcycle crash resulted in the closure of the No. 4 southbound lane while authorities investigated the scene and arranged for the motorcycle to be removed. Significant backups were reported through the Cajon Pass, extending toward Hesperia, creating additional delays for motorists traveling south.
Caltrans also reported a traffic-related closure on I-15 near the Nevada state line, where northbound traffic was closed about 27 miles south of the Nevada border in San Bernardino County because of a collision. Motorists were advised to use an alternate route.
The incidents have created difficult travel conditions along portions of the heavily traveled interstate. Drivers approaching crash scenes should reduce their speed, remain alert and follow directions from CHP officers and other emergency personnel.
At this time, authorities have not released the identity of the person killed in the Cajon Pass motorcycle crash. Additional details concerning the fatal crash near Nipton, including the identities of those involved and the circumstances that led to the collision, also remain limited.
The investigations remain ongoing, and traffic conditions may continue to change as emergency crews clear the affected areas and authorities complete their investigations.
Motorists planning to use the 15 Freeway today should check current CHP and Caltrans traffic information before traveling and be prepared for possible lane closures, detours and significant delays.
Disclaimer: Crash information is preliminary and may change as authorities release additional details. The confirmed circumstances, injuries and traffic restrictions should be verified through CHP or Caltrans before making travel decisions.
